From Accounting to Forrest Fire Fighting to Staff Adjuster, James Corey Shares His Journey

Adjuster Talk - May 24, 2018

James Corey’s career initially began as a staff accountant after graduating from college. After working in the accounting field for about two years, he quickly realized his dream was not crunching numbers and decided to pivot his career to a more exciting - and dangerous - role as a forest firefighter with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). After fighting fires for a number of years, he decided to pivot his career again to become a staff insurance adjuster with the American Modern Insurance Group. James joins me on today’s show to share his experience as an accountant and forest fighter, why he decided to work as a staff adjuster, and how one phone call enabled him to begin his new career journey despite not knowing anyone within the adjusting industry. He shares how his experiences and skills in his previous careers have helped him transition to his new role as an insurance adjuster and how this transition has impacted his life. He also shares how the company trained and prepared him to work in the field, the support he receives from the company as well as his fellow staff adjusters, and the tools he uses while adjusting claims.   “A big thing you learn - whether it’s in accounting, firefighting, or oil fields - is the ability to adapt to different situations. And with claims - every claim is different.” - James Corey   Resources: Symbility Property Solutions     Enroll Today for the Royal Adjusting Services Academy!
